Practice What You Preach

LEARNING AND APPLICATION

It's not just the learning of a new discipline or skill that will help us grow, it's putting the new knowledge to use and being a working example to others.

The physio who I've been seeing about a nerve problem in my right arm, has a lot of knowledge on the subject of nerves and the symptoms that cause discomfort and pain in the body. Yet, he's overweight and has terrible posture. He's no role model.

Health professionals, with all their knowledge, still need to embody what they have studied. So the same goes for any addiction raddled 20-a-day doctor you may meet. We have to follow the principles of the profession or skill-set we preach to others, otherwise, what kind of warped message are we giving out to others?

Trying to tell someone to cut down on alcohol, eat well and get some exercise is difficult for anyone to follow. If we preach to others, we should be leading by example and yet, a lot of us are overweight functioning alcoholics ourselves.
